SecurShred Learns of Electronics Recycling Trends

By in

SecurShred employees, Mark Trombley and David Van Mullen, attended a 2-day convention on E-Scrap.  During the seminars, workshops and trade show, trends in the electronic recycling industry for computer hardware recycling and electronics recycling certification were reviewed.  Currently, the electronics recycling industry is not in agreement about choosing only one consistent certification standard as there are two prevailing standards, E-Stewards and R2.  All agree that the direction for the recycling industry should be to start to implement one of these standards if they have not already. Currently, there is also no clear national law for the mandated recycling of all computer hardware, but there are now ~23 state laws that have been enacted to attempt to divert this material from landfills.

SecurShred offers a regional collection program for computer equipment while maintaining certification by the National Association for Information Destruction for the destruction of hard drives. Desktops, laptops, servers, multi-function copies and many other devices contain hard drives which contain confidential information that should be securely destroyed prior to the recycling. SecurShred provides barcode scanning of hard drives with reporting and secure crushing of the hard drives’ memory platters.
