SecurShred, the Vermont-founded South Burlington company offering document shredding, document imaging, document storage and electronic waste recycling services to businesses and households throughout the northeast region will host a “SHRED FOR GOOD” community shredding and hard drive destruction day on Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 8 AM to noon to benefit the United Way of Chittenden County.  The event is scheduled to take place at SecurShred’s warehouse located at 472 Meadowland Drive, Unit 1 in the Meadowland Business Park, just off route116 past Tilley Drive.

The company founded the “SHRED FOR GOOD” program to benefit community organizations, the environment, and the individuals who participate.  “The idea is pretty simple: bring us your confidential documents and computer hard drives, we’ll shred and destroy them, and donate the net proceeds from recycling the paper and metal to help people in need in our community.” said Karen Marshall, Chief Operating Officer.

Community members are encouraged to bring up to 10 boxes of records and confidential papers for shredding, with a suggested donation of $2 a box.  The company will also offer hard drive destruction, using its HD HAMMER technology to physically destroy computer hard drives on site, with a suggested donation of $5.  All proceeds will benefit United Way of Chittenden County’s Community Fundraising Campaign, with a 2010 goal of $4.1 million.

“Our goal is to shred 10 tons of paper at this event, and make every small piece of paper count to improve people’s lives. Ten tons is half a tractor trailer load of paper being sent to the pulp mill for recycling.  A mountain of paper can make a mountain of difference.  We chose United Way of Chittenden County as the beneficiary because it meets basic needs, engages our community in finding solutions, and helps to assure the health and well being of our citizens.” Marshall said.  She also indicated that all by-products of the shred day will be recycled.

Gretchen Morse, Executive Director of United Way of Chittenden County commented, “It’s a very creative way for a local company to conduct their first United Way campaign.  We love the win-win-win nature of this event and welcome SecurShred to the group of businesses and organizations throughout Chittenden County who help us raise 84-85% or our Campaign goal every year.  Thanks to everyone from SecurShred who will help make this event a success.”
