Data Breaches in the U.S. Increase 47 Percent in 2008!
The Identity Theft Resource Center, a San Diego-based non-profit group that monitors identity theft, reported 656 data breaches in 2008. This is an increase of 47 percent since the 2007 statistics reported 446 data breaches. The resource center also stated not all of the data breaches for 2008 were reported. This makes it difficult to determine all of the additional thousands or millions of personal data breaches for the year. Read Full Article

Shredding by Prison Inmates Costs More Than It Saves
On February 20, 2009 The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Virginia reported that Virginia Beach Sheriff Paul Lanteigne paid for an industrial shredder for the shredding of government documents by prison inmates. Read Full Article
