SecurShred helps its customers go “GREEN”

Paper consumption in the US is growing at an alarming rate.

  • Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away every year in the U.S.
  • Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper a year; about 680 pounds per person.
  • The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year!
  • The amount of wood and paper thrown away each year is enough to heat 50,000,000 homes for 20 years.

One of SecurShred’s major goals is to be a ECO-Friendly company . Though some companies say they are ECO-Friendly, Securshred actively takes steps to ensure this goal is reached.

One of our biggest ECO-Friendly initiatives is our paper recycling process! Each year, SecurShred recycles millions of pounds of paper. Once the paper has been shredded it is bailed at our secure warehouse facility, loaded into trailers, and shipped directly to US paper mills to be recycled into house hold tissue products.

To date, SecurShred has helped save 163,600 trees through our recycling process. Each month we update the number of trees we have saved on our home page.

Benefits of using recycled paper:

  • Environmentally responsible.
  • Recycling paper helps save valuable natural resources, energy, trees, create less toxic bi-products, and helps reduce landfills.
  • 30% – 50% reduction in energy when paper is recycled versus paper made with un -recycled pulp.
  • About 35% of municipal solid waste by weight is paper and paper products. Recycling 1 ton of paper eliminates 3 cubic meters of landfill.
  • There is 95% less air pollution created when creating paper from recycled paper versus cutting down trees to make paper.

SecurShred’s other ECO-Friendly initiatives:

Biodiesel Used In Mobile Shredding Trucks
Since 2008, the SecurShred fleet of diesel mobile shredding trucks have all moved to using biodiesel. The company that provides the fuel to SecurShred indicated that the product is 5% biodiesel

No Idling Policy
SecurShred has implemented a no idling policy for our biodiesel mobile shredding trucks. When not is use for shredding, and weather and other conditions permitting, our mobile shredding trucks will be shut down to save on diesel consumption and reduce air pollution.

Employee Recycling & Reuse Program
Our employees have been given reusable drinking containers to help reduce the use of plastic bottles and paper cups. All recyclable materials generated from our offices are routinely recycled through CSWD and not landfilled. Cardboard boxes generated from customer paper box purges are also all recycled through CSWD.

Computer Recycling
SecurShred, not only destroys the hard drives inside of computers, but also recycles computer equipment such as: CPU’s, Monitors, Servers, Battery Backups, Keyboards, Mice, Printers and Fax Machines.
