New Mandatory Hipaa Fines for Improper Disposal
HITECH will soon mandate specific HIPAA fines between $10,000 and $50,000 per record when the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) determines that unsecure disposal of paper or computers is the result of inadequate policies or training.

Attorney General Announces Health Net Settlement
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today announced a settlement -- the first of its kind in the nation -- with Health Net and its affiliates for failing to secure private patient medical records and financial information on nearly a half million Connecticut enrollees and promptly notify consumers endangered by the breach.
