Spring Cleaning? How to get rid of fluorescent bulbs and old laptops

By in

It’s the time of year when lawn mowers hum and the hoe-out of the garage commences. What do you toss? Many times, landfills will NOT accept electronics, so you’re stuck with not only that old hard drive, but what about those old dvd players? The fluorescent bulbs in the garage?

“Yes, we take those, too,” according to Dave Van Mullen, General Manager at SecurShred. “With the increase in cyber security crime and identity theft, not only companies, but individuals are coming to us with old smart phones, laptops and other electronics to e-cycle. Many people don’t know we have a walk-up service.”

While SecurShred #ShredEvents are lined with cars at various banks, parking lots and locations in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Upstate New York, they also offer hard-drive destruction at their headquarters in South Burlington. Many companies call for a pick-up of not only paper, but their old computers that are out of circulation.

According to Van Mullen, “It’s a great way to know that data will not be stolen off an old laptop, compromising the company and individual employees. We ensure through our NAID practices, that each document, each electronic component, is taken care of securely.” SecurShred has been an AAA certified member of the National Association for Information Destruction since 2002.
