The legislation establishing the Vermont E-Cycles Program set a first year collection goal of 3.4 million pounds of computers, laptops, monitors, printers, televisions and other items, or about 5.5 pounds of electronic waste per capita. Launched in July of last year and with two months remaining in the program year, the target has already been met. New estimates suggest that E-Cycles may bring in as much as 5 million pounds or over 7 pounds per person.

The program offers over 90 permanent collection sites across the state, in addition to many collection events. Under the law establishing the program, electronics manufacturers are required to fund the recycling of their wares, allowing Vermont residents, charities, school districts and small businesses to recycle their devices for free.
