The first ever “Shred for Good” event sponsored by SecurShred took place on Saturday, October 30th.  The company founded the “SHRED FOR GOOD” program to benefit community organizations, the environment, and the individuals who participate.  “The idea is pretty simple: bring us your confidential documents and computer hard drives, we’ll
shred and destroy them, and donate the net proceeds from recycling the paper and metal to help people in need in our community.” said Karen Marshall, Chief Operating Officer.

Community members were encouraged to bring up to 10 boxes of records and confidential papers for shredding, with a suggested donation of $2 a box. The company also offered hard drive destruction, using its HD HAMMER technology to physically destroy computer hard drives on site, with a suggested donation is $5.  With the attendees help, SecurShred raised $643 for the United Way.

All proceeds benefited the United Way of Chittenden County’s Community Fundraising Campaign which has a 2010 goal of $4.1 million.  “We chose United Way of Chittenden County as the beneficiary because it meets basic needs, engages our community in finding solutions, and helps to assure the health and well being of our citizens,” Marshall said.  She also indicated that all by-products of the shred day were recycled.
